In der Thinline Serie kommen die Stärken von Epiphone so richtig zur Geltung. Hier gibt es ein breites Angebot an verschiedenen Modellen mit unterschiedlichen Ausstattungsmerkmalen in allen Preisbereichen. Heute führen die beiden Modelle \"John Lennon Casino\" und \"John Lee Hooker Sheraton\" die Thinline Liste an.

1958 gelang Gibson ein großer Coup mit der Vorstellung der ES 335. Herausragendes Merkmal dieses Gitarrentyps ist die strukturelle Mischung aus Hollowbody und Solidbody. Der Korpus der ES-335 verfügt in der Korpusmitte über einen durchgezogenen massiven Sustainblock, während sich der Resonanzkörper auf zwei hohle Seitenflügel beschränkt. Der Vorteil dieser Konstruktion liegt auf der Hand. Die bei zunehmender Lautstärke gefürchteten Rückkopplungen werden weitgehend ausgeschlossen. Für ein großzügiges Bespielen des Halses sorgte das bis dahin noch nie da gewesene Double- Cutaway-Design, auch bekannt als Mickymaus-Ohren. Der Brückenschlag zwischen den elektrischen Archtops und den Solidbody Modellen war damit vollzogen. Mittlerweile ist die ES-335 zu einem echten Klassiker geworden, und Epiphone bietet eine Auswahl von interessanten Modellvarianten an.
